The Equipment Evaluation compares the short circuit current rating (SCCR) of the protective devices to the available fault current at each panel bus in the electrical system. The interrupting rating of breakers must be greater than the calculated fault current available at the equipment location in order to pass the equipment evaluation process. When the criteria limits are met the breaker evaluation status is set to “pass”. However when the limits are exceeded the status is set to “fail” and these devices are considered to be over-dutied. The over-dutied breakers are tabulated in the equipment evaluation section of the report for corrective action.
The Equipment Evaluation is essential to determine if the breakers are rated to operate safely to interrupt and isolate fault currents with minimal disruption to the overall system. Operating scenarios are simulated to evaluate the equipment under normal and alternate power modes, including emergency and maintenance operations.
